1. In my previous article I asserted that eternal life is something more than simply a life that has no end; it is the life of Christ, which has no beginning or end.

이전의 글에서 제가 영생은 단순히 끝이 없는 생명이기보다는 특별한 다른 것이라고 말씀드렸습니다. 그것은 그리스도의 생명이며, 시작이나 끝이 없습니다.

2. It is eternal.

이는 영원합니다.

3. When we came into Christ and were born again, we literally became partakers of his life.

우리가 그리스도 안에 들어오고, 거듭났을 때, 우리는 문자 그대로 그의 생명에 참예한 자가 되었습니다.

5. But we still live in bodies that are very much related to time.

그러나 우리는 아직 시간에 매여 있는 몸 안에 살고 있습니다.

6. The life of our bodies(flesh) is temporal, and written into our members is the law of sin (Rom. 7:23).

우리 몸(육신)의 생명은 일시적이며, 죄의 법이 우리 지체 안에 쓰여 있습니다. (롬 7:23)

7. So there is a conflict between the Spirit and the flesh.

그렇기 때문에 성령과 육신 사이에 싸움이 있는 것입니다.

8. They are contrary to one another (Galatians 5:17). –The end of first paragraph-

이 둘은 서로 대적하는 것입니다. (갈 5:17)

9. Before we came to Christ and were born again into the family of God, we were subject to the law of sin which is in our members.

우리가 그리스도 안에 들어오고, 거듭나서 하나님 자녀가 되기 전에는 우리 지체 속에 있는 죄의 법에 속해 있었습니다.

10. Everything we did was sin, whether it was good or evil, it was sin because it originated in our flesh, and even the apostle Paul said of his flesh,“In me, that is in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing.”(Romans7:18) -The end of second paragraph-

우리가 한 모든 것은 그것이 선하든 악하든지 간에 모두 죄였습니다. 왜냐하면 우리가 한 모든 것이 우리 육신으로부터 나왔기 때문입니다. 그리고 사도 바울조차도 그의 육신에 대해서 “내 속 곧 내 육신에 선한 것이 거하지 아니하는 줄을 아노니” (롬 7:18) 라고 말했습니다.

11. Although we had no choice, before we were saved, but to walk after our sinful flesh (Ephesians 2:2,3), since we have been made alive in Christ and have become new creatures (2 Corinthians 5:17), sin has no more power over us (Romans 6:14,18).

우리가 구원받기 이전에는 죄 많은 육체를 따라 사는 것 외에는 다른 선택의 여지가 없었지만 (엡 2:2-3), 우리가 그리스도 안에서 생명을 얻고, 새로운 피조물이 되었기 때문에 (고후 5:17) 죄는 더 이상 우리를 주관치 못합니다. (롬 6:14,18)

12. As Christians, we no longer have to yield to the lusts of our flesh and the carnal attributes that reside in it.

그리스도인으로서 우리는 더 이상 우리 육신의 소욕이나 그 안에 거하는 육체의 속성을 따를 필요가 없습니다.

13. We can walk in holiness and righteousness if we walk in the Spirit.

우리가 영 안에 거한다면 우리는 거룩함과 의로움 안에 거할 수 있습니다.

14. There are two lives then, Eternal life, and natural life.

그러므로 두 가지의 삶이 있습니다. 영생의 삶과 육신의 삶이 그것입니다.

15. As believers we have an option.

믿는 사람으로서 우리는 선택을 할 수 있습니다.

16. Read carefully the following scriptures: Galatians 5:16,17; Romans 8:5-14; 1Corinthians 3:1-4; 1 Corinthians 10:13.

다음에 나오는 성경을 잘 읽어보시기 바랍니다. 갈라디아서 5:16-17, 로마서 8:5-14, 고린도전서 3:1-4, 고린도전서 10:13.

17. In all of these texts we can see the evidence that spiritual people can walk victoriously in the Spirit or they can choose to walk carnally.

이 모든 성경에서 우리는 성도들이 영 안에서 승리의 삶을 살든지 아니면 육신의 삶을 선택할 수도 있는 증거를 찾아 볼 수 있습니다만

18. That is not God’s purpose.

그것이(육신의 삶을 사는 것) 하나님의 목적은 아닙니다.

19. We are to walk after the Spirit, bringing our bodies into subjection, and manifesting in our bodies, not the sin to which they naturally gravitate, but the holiness of our spiritual life. –The end of third paragraph-

우리는 성령 안에 거하며 우리 몸을 복종시키고, 자연적으로 이끌리게 되는 죄가 아닌 우리 신앙의 거룩함을 몸에 나타내야 합니다.

20. I asked you, in the previous article, to read Romans 12. I am assuming that you have done that.

제가 지난 글에서 여러분께 로마서 12장을 읽어보라고 부탁드렸고, 여러분께서 읽으셨으리라 생각합니다.

21. If you did, you probably noticed that it is an admonition to the brethren.

만약 여러분께서 읽으셨다면 이것이 형제들을 향한 권고라는 것을 발견하셨을 것입니다.

22. Paul is telling them how to behave; extremely important instruction that is frequently ignored by professing believers.

바울을 그들에게 어떻게 행해야 하는지 말하고 있습니다. 이는 (주를) 시인하는 믿는 사람들에 의해 자주 경시 여겨지지만 굉장히 중요한 가르침입니다.

23. Read it over and apply each of the verses to your every-day walk.

다시 한 번 읽어보시고 각 구절을 여러분 매일의 삶에 적용시켜 보십시오.

24. But notice especially the first eight verses.

그러나 특별히 처음 1절부터 8절까지를 유의하여 읽어보기 바랍니다.

25. And out of those eight pay special attention to the first two, because if you miss the message of verses one and two, you’ve missed it all. –The end of fourth paragraph-

그리고 그 8절중에서 처음 1절과 2절에 특별한 주의를 기울이십시오. 왜냐하면 여러분이 1절과 2절의 메시지를 놓치게 된다면, 그 뒤의 메시지 모두를 놓치게 되기 때문입니다.

26. “I beseech you brethren”… (this is not a command, it is a plea. The response to this has to come from the heart), “that ye (plural collective) present your bodies (plural)”….

“형제들아 내가 너희를 권하노니….” 이것은 명령이 아닌 간청이기 때문에 이에 대한

반응은 마음으로부터 나와야 합니다. “너희(ye: 복수집합) 몸(bodies: 복수)을… 드리라.”

27. (Paul is pleading for a collective action on the part of the saints; all of them are to present each of their bodies collectively)….”a living sacrifice. (notice that the sacrifice is singular.

바울은 각각의 성도들이 함께 행동하기를 간청하고 있습니다. 모든 성도들은 그들 몸의

각각을 함께 드려야 합니다. “…산 제사로 드리라.” 여기에서 제사는 단수(a living sacrifice)인 것을 주목하십시오.

28. Together we are to present ourselves collectively as a singular living sacrifice.

우리는 함께 우리 자신을 하나의 산 제사로 드려야 합니다.

29. To do that requires unity of the Spirit and singleness of heart; no division; no competition; no backbiting.)

그렇게 하는 것은 성령의 연합과 하나된 마음을 필요로 합니다. 분열이나 경쟁이나 험담이 있어서는 안 됩니다.

30. That sacrifice is to be “holy, acceptable unto God”….

이 제사는 “하나님이 기뻐하시는 거룩한” 제사가 되어야 합니다.

31. (holy means separate from the world; acceptable unto God means blameless, not hypocritical)…”which is your reasonable service” –The end of fifth paragraph-

거룩함은 세상과의 분리를 의미합니다. 하나님이 기뻐하신다는 의미는 위선적인 것이 아니라 책망 받을 것이 없다는 의미입니다. “이는 너희의 드릴 영적 예배니라”

32. Obviously the expectation is that we would take our bodies with their propensity to follow after their carnal appetites, control them by the power of the Spirit of Christ which is in us (eternal life) and cause them to serve God’s purpose. –The end of sixth paragraph-

분명하게 기대되는 것은 우리가 육체의 소욕을 따르려고 하는 성향을 가진 몸을 취하여 우리 안에 있는 그리스도의 성령(영생)의 힘으로 말미암아 육체를 거스르고 하나님의 목적을 섬기도록 만드는 것입니다.

33. The method by which we accomplish this and the consequent result is described in verse two.

우리가 이것을 이루는 방법과 그에 따르는 결과는 2절에 나타나 있습니다.

34. “And be not conformed to this world.”…-The seventh paragraph-

“이 세대를 본받지 말고”

35. Before we move on, let’s talk about what that means.

다음으로 넘어가기 전에 이것이 어떤 의미인지 이야기하도록 하겠습니다.

36. It’s quite possible that some among us have never given much thought to what is included in conformity to this world.

우리들 중 누군가가 이 세대를 본받는다는 것에 어떤 의미가 포함되어 있는지 많은 생각을 하지 않았을 가능성도 꽤 있습니다.

37. There are certain qualities that are attributes only of the flesh, and are not attributable to eternal life.

영생의 속성에 속하지 않고 오직 육신의 속성에만 속하는 특정한 특성들이 있습니다.

38. In Ephesians 2:3 Paul said all of us “had our conversation in time past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of our flesh and of our mind.”

에베소서 2장 3절에서 바울은 우리 모두에게 이렇게 말하고 있습니다. “전에는 우리 육체의 욕심을 따라 지내며 육체와 마음의 원하는 것을 하여”

39. That was our nature.

이것이 우리의 본성입니다.

40. Included in the list of things that would define the desires of our flesh and of our mind would be the desire for personal “success”, including fame, power, influence, control of others, wealth, recognition and a host of other things that are self-exalting.

명성이나 권력, 영향력, 다른 사람을 감독하는 것, 부, 인정받는 것, 그리고 스스로를 높이는 많은 것들을 포함하여 개인적인 ‘성공’에 대한 욕망이 우리 마음과 육신의 욕망이라고 정의될 수 있는 것들의 목록에 포함될 것입니다.

41. These could be summed up in the word “self.”

이것들은 ‘자아’라는 단어로 요약될 수 있습니다.

42. Jesus said that if we would be his disciples, we are to deny self, and take up the cross. Paul is telling us the same thing. –The end of eighth paragraph-

예수님께서는 우리가 그의 제자가 되기 되려면 자신을 부인하고 십자가를 져야 한다고 말씀하셨습니다. 바울도 우리에게 같은 것을 이야기하고 있습니다.

43. “But be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…”…

“오직 마음을 새롭게 함으로 변화를 받아…”

44. We cannot apply the old worldly mindset to the kingdom of God.

우리는 이전의 세상적인 사고방식을 하나님의 왕국에 적용할 수 없습니다.

45. Everything is different in eternal life than it was in the natural life.

영생 안에서 모든 것은 이전의 자연인의 삶에서 그랬던 것과는 다릅니다.

46. If we apply the same pursuit of “success” with all of its often admired accoutrements to the kingdom of God, we just have a religion, and the eternal life of Christ will not be in evidence even though some might admire us as wonderful Christians.

만약 우리가 이전과 같은 ‘성공’의 추구와 그를 달성하기 위한 모든 방법들을 하나님의 왕국에 적용한다면 우리는 단지 종교를 가지고 있을 뿐이며, 누군가가 우리를 위대한 그리스도인으로 존경한다고 할지라도 그리스도의 영생은 나타나지 않을 것입니다.

47. But here is the real bottom line, “That ye may prove (demonstrate) what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” –The end of ninth paragraph-

그러나 가장 중요한 핵심이 여기 있습니다. “너희는 … 하나님의 선하시고 기뻐하시고 온전하신 뜻이 무엇인지 분별하도록 하라 (보이라)” –아홉 번째 단락 끝-

48. We are the body of Christ.

우리는 그리스도의 몸입니다.

49. We are to walk even as he walked (1 John 2:6).

우리는 그가 행하시는 대로 행해야 합니다. (요일 2:6)

50. “Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world” (1John 4:17).

“이로써 사랑이 우리에게 온전히 이룬 것은 우리로 심판날에 담대함을 가지게 하려 함이니 주의 어떠하심과 같이 우리도 세상에서 그러하니라” (요일 4:17)

51. We, as the body of Christ are in the world to demonstrate the will of God.

그리스도의 몸으로서 우리는 하나님의 뜻을 나타내기 위해 이 세상에 있습니다.

52. This has nothing to do with personal gain, putting ourselves on display or anything else about us.

이것은 개인적인 성취나 우리 스스로를 나타내는 것, 아니면 우리에 대한 어떤 것과도 관련이 없습니다.

53. “We are dead, and our lives are hid with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life shall appear, then shall we also appear with him in glory." (Colossians 3:3,4)

“이는 너희가 죽었고 너희 생명이 그리스도와 함께 하나님 안에 감취었음이니라 우리 생명이신 그리스도께서 나타나실 그 때에 너희도 그와 함께 영광 중에 나타나리라” (골로새서 3:3-4)

54. It is not about us; it is all about him. –The end of tenth paragraph-

이는 우리에 관한 것이 아닙니다. 이것은 모두 그에 관한 것입니다.
