Answer:

Dear Kim, Bo Sung. Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus. God promised that if we would delight ourselves in the Lord, he would give us the desires of our heart.(Ps.37:4) It seems evident that he has given you a desire of heart to glorify him in ministering the gospel to the unreached. Before you think of formal training, think about the training that only God can give you. God may lead you to a formal training program, but that will be of little value to you if you are not availing yourself of the things that God has given you. So let¡¯s talk about them first.

1. The Word. Listening to preachers, reading books, etc., although sometimes helpful and edifying, is not the same as being in the Word. The Bible says, ¡°All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God (that¡¯s you Bo Sung) may be perfect (complete, mature), throughly furnished unto all good works¡±(2 Tim. 3:16).

We tell people this all the time, but many do not take it seriously; so they read the Bible a little bit, then they read commentaries or other books, or ask preachers, and soon they are not hearing from God, they are hearing from men. In that way they never become throughly furnished or equipped. Please don¡¯t do that. Seriously begin to prayerfully read your Bible. Read all of it from Genesis to the Revelation. If there is something you do not understand, don¡¯t immediately ask someone to explain it to you. Pray about it, lay it aside and expect God to reveal it to you at some later reading. Absorb what God reveals to you and obey it. He will teach you ¡°precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little and there a little¡± (Isaiah 28:10). Every day (perhaps early in the morning when it is quiet) get alone with your Bible and read consecutively through it (even the boring parts; even the hard-to-understand parts; don¡¯t skip over anything) and spend time talking to God about his word with a heart ready to be taught and changed. That will be the foundation of your message and your ministry in time to come.

2. Prayer. This is essential because it is only God who can do the work. We must be totally dependant upon him; and when he does something through us or in answer to our prayers, we must give him all the glory and praise. When you pray, thank him for everything, good and bad. Praise him for who he is and what he does; petition him for the needs of others as well as your own; intercede for the lost and for those who are trying to reach them.

3.Witness. Speak openly of the Lord, and share the gospel wherever the opportunity presents itself. Be sure that your lifestyle agrees with what you say. Do not allow hypocrisy to blunt your testimony to the world. Jesus said, ¡°If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily and follow me¡± (Luke 9:23).

During the next two years of military service, if you will do these things, you will find yourself largely equipped for the service God has in mind for you, God may reveal to you where he wants you to be and what he wants you to do. If his plan includes formal training, he will direct you to the program in which he would have you participate. Please be careful of the type of training that confers titles and makes you a clergy man. Living for Jesus is not a religion, it is a life which reproduces life in others.

When the time comes for training, if God should lead you that way, I am sure he will direct you to some godly training program there in Korea through your local church or, contact us at SFMI and perhaps God will allow us the privilege of helping you reach your goal. In the meantime consistently fellowship with saints who love the Lord (Heb. 10:24,25). I look forward to hearing from you again. In Christ, Dick York.
